v Match Fund flagship volunteers have already helped to create safer neighbourhoods, protect the environment, raise educational attainment and improve the nation’s health. By harnessing the creativity and energy of young people and the vision and generosity of UK business, we can bring communities together to find solutions to society’s biggest problems.
v Match Fund Flagships
Nike, Laureus: Nike Gamechangers – Active Communities Network
This project targets young people from Black and Minority Ethnic communities living in socio-economically deprived areas, and provides them with the leadership skills and self-confidence to tackle local community issues. Gamechanger volunteers help to raise the aspirations of children and young people, through creative sports and literacy projects.
Bank of America: Climate Squad – Global Action Plan
This project has recruited a new generation of environmental activists to lead sustainability initiatives in their local communities and inspire other young people to take action on climate change. The project promotes more energy efficient lifestyles and behaviour, helping to reduce carbon emissions and waste.
ITV: ITV Fixers – The Public Service Broadcasting Trust
This project enables young people to identify a key issue or concern in their local community, and then work out creative solutions to ‘Fix’ it. ITV works with the young volunteer Fixers to follow their projects, broadcasting their progress in the early evening regional news programme and online at ITV Local.
Sita Trust: Make a Difference @ The Buszy
This project has turned a former Bus Station in Milton Keynes into an iconic community space, run by young volunteers. The venue provides children and young people with a safe and accessible venue in the centre of the city, offering a wide range of activities including music, sport and art.
BP: Young Leaders Programme – v & Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust
This project has recruited and trained 100 young leaders from disadvantaged backgrounds in London and Hull. Young Leaders are responsible for engaging and inspiring their communities through youth-led projects in the lead up to the 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games.
Global Radio: I have a choice – Catch 22
This project proactively targets young people who are not in employment, education or training and offers opportunities to lead sports development, event management or radio broadcasting. Young volunteers inspire a culture of youth-led action in their communities, engaging their peers in positive activities.
Private Equity Foundation: City Year London
This project has recruited 50 young volunteers to undertake a year of full-time service to engage and inspire children in inner-city London schools. They teach academic and civic skills and assist in the delivery of extra-curricular activities with after-school clubs and community based organisations.
Bank of America: Waterways Action Squad – The Waterways Trust
This project is improving the waterways of North West England, through practical conservation projects. Young volunteers lead the regeneration of waterways, making them more accessible and attractive to the general public, and encourage healthier lifestyles through a range of activities offered on and off the water.
Sita Trust: My Space, Your Space, Our Space – Foresight
This project has converted the attic space of a popular community venue into a digital inclusion zone. Having designed the space, young volunteers play a key role in training members of the community to use the new digital facilities, as well as developing social enterprise projects.
