More info
SAFE@LAST offers a 24 hour helpline to children and young people aged 16 years and under who are at risk of running away.
Are you the sort of person that your mates always offload their problems to? You might be just the person we need to listen to answer the phone, respond to text messages and web chat with young people who are having a rough time.
Main purpose of the Runaways Helpline Volunteer is to provide emotional and practical support to children and young people at risk through running away who contact the SAFE@LAST helpline.
Person specification:
Non-judgemental attitude and approach.
Good communication and listening skills.
Ability to respond appropriately to text messages and web chats from young people.
Ability to adopt a non-directive and client-centred approach.
An appropriate level of self-awareness.
Commitment to personal and professional development.
Have a good understanding of the issues faced by children at risk of, or through running away.
To work within SAFE@LAST’s policies, procedures and guidelines, especially those relating to confidentiality, equal opportunities and child protection.
We currently offer 2 hour duties to volunteers: 4pm-6pm and 6pm-8pm every day of the week, including the weekends. New recruits must be willing to committ to 3-4 duties per month including at least one on the weekend.
Full training will be given which is coming up in September 2011.
