'Rushenden Colour Palette' - Medichem Fence Project
By Richard Perry
As part of the Rushenden Art in the Public Realm project, artist Richard Perry has been commissioned to design an artwork for the fence which lines the road as one enters Rushenden, owned by Medichem International. The concept for the project was to create a colour palette for Rushenden, taken from images taken by local photographers, as part of the Roaming Perspectives 3 workshop. The fence slats will be painted a range of blues to reflect the range found naturally in the nearby nature reserve.
This is an unique opportunity to work alongside a professional artist in the great outdoors, learning how public artworks happen.
Volunteers are invited to take part in a series of fence painting days in August, to help construct the artwork. Brushes and refreshments will be provided for those who take part. It is advisable to wear dirty/old clothes if considering taking part.
Painting Dates were Friday 27th, Saturday 28th, Tuesday 31st August & Wed 22nd September

'A Different Perspective' by Charlotte Huggins
Art at the centre is a pioneering award scheme from the Arts Council England, that seeks to embed creativity within regeneration practice across the region. Art at the Centre supports local authorities in the south east with ambitious plans for urban renewal. Art at the Centre supports our core belief that sustainable regeneration is built on more than bricks and mortar: when artists are able to contribute from the outset to the regeneration process, the resulting master-planning and community involvement leads to real innovation with lasting outcomes.
Art at the Centre in Swale’s aim has been to introduce creative processes into long-term plans for the regeneration of Queenborough and Rushenden – a small urban area on the Isle of Sheppey – and once an important seafaring district. Reflecting the breadth of the plans, the project aims to impact upon ‘all aspects of regeneration and planning, including consultations and public art and design projects’.
