Are you 18-25? Do you share a concern for animal welfare, conservation and the need to question peoples attitude to other animals? If so, then the Monkey Sanctuary in Looe, Cornwall, would love to hear from you!

As a full time volunteer you will join the Sanctuary team in cleaning monkey territory, preparing monkey food, gardening, house work, street collecting and general maintenance. Hours of work are from 8.30am 5.00pm, five days a week. Full time volunteers will be invited to live in the Sanctuary community on site, share a dormitory room with other volunteers & share our meals.

From Easter to September (Sundays to Thursdays) the Sanctuary is open to the public. During these times volunteers help in various ways: serving in the Sanctuary shop, helping in the vegetarian kiosk, sweeping paths & public areas, working with children in the activity room & at peak times may be asked to direct visitors to parking their cars.

From October to Easter, Volunteers will help with building, repairing & painting territory structures & general maintenance of the house and grounds. Skills in maintenance, building & woodwork are particularly welcome & made use of as much as possible. During winter, keepers have more time to develop new plans & move the Sanctuary forward.

Volunteers do not work directly with the monkeys under any circumstances. Keepers spend many months learning to recognise not only each individual monkey but also their personalities & the group dynamics. The keepers aim to keep interference to a discreet & respectful minimum. This approach has assisted the colony with the successful development of a social way of life.

We ask residential volunteers for a voluntary donation of 45 waged/35 unwaged/student per week to cover food & accommodation.
