Green for Go is a Vinvolved funded project that works in partnership with People Matters to deliver a programme of volunteering opportunities for local young people.
The young volunteers, aged 16-25 and including those with disabilities, refugees and offenders, get really involved in their communities through a range of environmental tasks – taking responsibility for the local area, getting active and helping to spruce up local areas that have fallen into disrepair.
The volunteers have a monthly steering group meeting in which they discuss what they would like to do around environmental conservation. The volunteers have their own allotments where they plan, plant, weed and harvest their own fruit and vegetables. The volunteers have also adopted the Kirkstall Valley Nature Reserve helping to develop the site through a range of activities including bulb planting, hay raking and putting up bird boxes. We also work closely with Swillington Farm where we have helped revitalise their nature area. The volunteers have recently produce their own recycle and ruse fashion show.
Full time volunteers can set up their own environmental projects and help plan the Green for Go activities
