Derbyshire Friend is a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender health and community project. We offer befriending and support services through our weekly phoneline and drop in. Also our sexual health volunteers promote health issues to the gay community by means of workshop, talks and outreach work.
Help and information volunteers provide information and support to individuals via the switchboard, face-to-face and call back support services. Including:
To answer information and support calls through the Switchboard service.
To carry out Face-to-face support when required.
To carry out Face-to-face Information, advice and guidance (IAG) sessions.
To develop and contribute to the 'call back service'.
Completing project monitoring sheets.
Ability to work within the policies and procedures of the charity.Essential Requirements:
Clear understanding of confidentiality and equal opportunities.
Non-judgemental attitude.
Honesty, reliability and adaptability.
Good telephone manner.
Good knowledge of the issues affecting the LGBT community.Desirable Requirements:
Experience/knowledge of Derbyshire Friend and its services.
Knowledge of appropriate local referral agencies (i.e. GUM clinics)
Willingness to learn.Training includes:
-An introduction to Derbyshire Friend and volunteering.
-LGBT Awareness OCN.
