We have over 60 different research projects for you to get involved in, but here are some of our favourites with a brief description of what you can expect on the expedition:
1. Shark Conservation in Belize Using baited remote underwater video, and catch and release and individual sharks, you’ll help Professor Demian Chapman count and measure sharks and other key reef species. Data will demonstrate to policymakers and the community that marine reserves encourage high biodiversity, benefitting shark populations and maintaining a balanced ecosystem.
2. Mammal Conservation in South Africa You will track and monitor a variety of key mammalian species including vervet monkeys, baboons and leopards, recording behavioural observations to help us understand how these populations are reacting to human-wildlife conflict in the area.
3. Climate Change in Wytham Woods, Oxfordshire You’ll help Dr Terhi Riutta to establish and study experimental plots in the wood, tagging, identifying and measuring trees, monitoring CO2 emissions and tracking local wildlife, to better understand the impacts of climate change on UK woodland habitats.
4. Puerto Rico’s Rainforest You’ll help find ways for communities to sustainably restor and profit from local rainforests. Teams monitor the rainforest ecosystem by measuring trees, counting lizards and frogs, tagging and identifying vine species and setting experimental plots for tree and shrub species.
Expeditions start at £795 with a 5% discount available to all students on request.
