More info
Watford Workshop provides training & employment for people with disabilities. They undertake contracts with outside firms of many different kinds, for example engineering, sewing, packaging & assembly. Their work is of consistent high quality, & all the shop floor staff are trained to a high standard so they can achieve not only a pride in their work but a good level of confidence & independence within a supportive system. The management staff are extremely busy & are looking for volunteers to help them keep everything going!
A volunteer is needed to look after the premises in general, carrying out various DIY repairs & maintenance & cleaning, ensuring that the floors are swept, bins emptied, health & safety requirements met & so on. There may be some outdoor tasks to do in the car park & on the pathways. Some basic DIY skills would be required for this, & more importantly an enthusiastic personality with an eye for spotting when something needs doing & the initiative to get on & do it. This could be an ideal opportunity for someone with a practical turn of mind who enjoys taking responsibility but can also work to direction if required.
If you're thinking of a future job as a caretaker, for example, this would be a great training ground to learn more about building maintenance, & also to find out how a local charity operates & the problems faced by its client group on a daily basis
