What is "Your Square Mile?"
There are 93,000 Square Miles in the UK
We tend to only hear about two of them, the square miles of the City and Westminster, and have felt badly let down by both of them in recent years.
“Your Square Mile” is about enabling citizens to make changes in as many of the other 92,998 square miles as possible. The idea is to strengthen people's involvement with their neighbourhoods by offering them practical help, including maps of local facilities, software grants, office space and contacts in the local council.The workshops
Each workshop will focus on the challenges facing a specific local area which will lead to an Action Plan to tackle up to 5 of the challenges over the next 6 months.
The worskhops will discuss
• What people love and hate about their neighbourhood
• Break out groups discuss the needs, passions, and problems within the neighbourhood concerned
The aim is to create an Action Plan of no more than 5 highly specific challenges the neighbourhood faces, as voted democratically by those present, which they will attempt to tackle via a pilot run over the next 6 months.
