  • Youth Led International Development Agency Restless Development is proud to lead on an exciting initiative, delivering a tour across the UK for young people. The tour aims to engage and inspire young people in the UK to take action and become agents4change to help tackle HIV and AIDS.  Restless Development believes that young people in the UK are in a powerful position to make a difference to the global HIV pandemic and that to make this happen they must be approached in a way that is appropriate and engaging to them.   dance4Life is an innovative, international project empowering young people to take action in the face of the global HIV pandemic; motivating young people to take action through popular culture. dance4life informs young people about HIV transmission and the realities in both the local and global context. The campaign inspires young people to act on the information that is delivered during the workshop so that they become ‘agents4change’. During the workshop the young people are asked to consider what they can do in their lives, in their communities and on a national scale that will make a difference to those affected by HIV around the world. Dedicated dance facilitators will be selected to visit approximately 30 schools across the UK within a three week period. dance4life 2.5 hour workshops are presented to audiences of around 300 young people at a time.  The workshops combine dance, music, interactive games, discussion and information; the overall aim is that the young people feel informed and inspired to take action at its end. Working as part of a team of 4 people you will be visiting up to 2 schools a day to deliver a 2.5 hour, interactive dance4life workshops to students aged 15-18. The aim of the workshop is to inform young people about HIV. Topics will include routes of transmission, stigma and discrimination, HIV in the UK and around the world and action planning in the face of the global pandemic. Our tour team will consist of at least one facilitator who is living positively with HIV and they will also share their story during the workshop in order to make a connection between the idea of HIV and the reality of it. Your role as facilitator will help to bring about understanding of the Global HIV and AIDS pandemic, to relate this to the importance of young people understanding their status and Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights (SRH&R) and to take action to help raise awareness with other young people. Note: This will be an intensive three week period, including the week training. There will be time to rest in the evenings and a day off over the weekends while we are on tour although some of this time may be spent travelling to the next location. Travel will be in a people carrier with a driver. You must be willing to facilitate large numbers of young people and be dedicated to inspiring young people to take action in the face of the pandemic. You will be required to communicate key messages about HIV prevention to young people in line with Restless Development policies Dance and music are used as a tool to engage young people in the subject of HIV. As a facilitator on the tour you will be engaging and educating young people in the campaign through dancing on stage, leading discussions, facilitating interactive learning and directing question and answer sessions with the audience as well as participating in open discussions with team members about why learning about HIV is important. The sessions are high energy and high impact but with very key messages that we would like to deliver to the young people. We are looking for facilitators who can embrace the message and also bring enthusiasm to its delivery. You will be required to teach the students involved in the workshop a basic dance. This dance is being taught to young people all over the world and is a great vehicle for engaging young people and linking them to the global dance4life movement. The dance element of the programme is hugely important as it is a universal language through which all young people can communicate. There will be a five day residential training at the start of the tour where you will learn the dance4Life dance drills, develop your knowledge on HIV and AIDS, SRH&R, consolidate learning and confirm the structure of the workshops as well as get to know each other as a team and learn how to support each other.
