    VOLUNTARY OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION

     

    Development and Support Officer

    A1 Positive Recycling Project Ltd South West

     

    Responsible to: Chief Executive

     

    Based: Exeter Devon

     

    Hours to be agreed: 30/37 hours per week (to be agreed)

    Voluntary: 3month work trial after qualifying 30 hour week

    Purpose of the post: to act as a deputy to the Chief Executive.

     

    Key Areas:

     

    Regional Work

     

    • To develop and manage regional initiatives within the Voluntary and Community Sector, under the guidance of and working with the Chief Executive.
    • To represent the A1 Enterprise on regional bodies such as the Regional Funders Forum and Funding South West when the Chief Executive is unable to do so.
    • To seek to support the 50 networks throughout the Region that the Foundation is currently working with.

     

    Research and Development Work Including Income Re-Generation.

     

    ·         To work with the Chief Executive in the undertaking of research either on behalf of the Enterprise or for other agencies, including research that will assist in the development of the strategic plan for the Enterprise.

    • To work with the Chief Executive to project manage the delivery of any internal and external contracts/commissions undertaken by the Enterprise.
    • To lead on the development of the Community Development Network under the guidance of the Chief Executive and to represent this body at national meetings and for Exeter.
    • To identify opportunities for income generation and take a key role alongside the Chief Executive  in the development of income generation activities including the management and delivery of income generating projects that are self sustainable

     

     

    Support in the management and administration of Grant Programmes

     

    • To undertake management support and administration in the running of the regional grant programmes of the South West Enterprise.
    • To assist with the preparations of reports back to donors and external agencies.
    • To collect data and statistics for evaluations that the Enterprise may undertake including internal evaluations.
    • To undertake and manage the monitoring of grants given in consultation with the Chief Executive.
    • To undertake grant assessments under guidance, including onsite assessments.

     

     

    Promotion of the Foundation

     

    • To work with the Chief Executive to promote the Enterprise and its activities.
    • To assist with the production of publications, press releases, web information and Funders’ Fairs and to undertake presentations and public appearances on behalf of the Enterprise.

    Please note the Enterprise is a small regional organisation. There is an element of income generation involved in this post. The Foundation is currently undergoing a period of review and the duties of this post may alter in relation to this. The post holder will be required to undertake any other activities, as directed, that are in accordance with the voluntary work of the Enterprise and as are related this post.

    Qualifications and experience

     

    Essential Criteria

     

    • Good working knowledge and understanding of the values and principles of Community Development and Social Enterprise
    • Good level of educational achievement, ideally to degree level, but not to the exclusion of experience

    ·         Past experience of project management with the Voluntary and Community Sector

    • A proven understanding of the principles of equality and diversity and a commitment to the promotion of these issues
    • Proven ability of working with a variety of IT programmes including word processing, and spreadsheets
    • Good administration skills
    • The post requires travel and therefore the successful  candidate must have access to independent travel
    • A commitment to and understanding of the issues facing small Voluntary and Community Sector organisations

     

    Desirable Criteria

    • Experience of grant management and/or of working with funder’s including the provision of funding advice or applying for funding.
    • Good working knowledge of evaluation principles
    • Previous experience of the preparation of reports to donor agencies and grant funder’s
    • Ability to work with a wide range of organisations both voluntary and statutory agencies
    • Past experience of data collection and the ability to present data in an understandable format
    • Some experience of the delivery of training
