    Why We Want You:

    We need an enthusiastic individual, who is good at communicating with a wide range of audiences to take on this varied and challenging volunteer role. You’ll be helping with the planning and delivery of the reserves busy Lifelong Learning programme.

     

    It will include:

    -          Assisting the running and  development  of RSPB Youth Groups

    -          Delivering formal education linked to the curriculum to schools (outreach and on reserves)

    -          Engaging with young people and inspire them about wildlife

    -          Working as part of the lifelong learning team in preparation for visits, setting- up, clearing away and carrying out  post-visit evaluation

    -          Assisting with educational resource development

    -          Supporting delivery of an active family event programme

    -          Supporting staff with administration and booking procedure

    -          Delivering Birthday Parties

    -          Line Management (appraisals, regular 1-2-1s)

    -          Training in the delivery of the site’s Field Teaching programmes in line with  the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom’s Quality Badge Standard

    -          Training in the safe use of all equipment and in the identification of local species

    -          Careers training including CV writing and interview technique

    -          Access to our internal vacancies during your internship

    -          A reference on successful completion of your internship

    -          A uniform and name badge

    -          Travel and out of pocket expenses

     

    The Skills / Talents You’ll Need:

     

    Excellent people and communication skills with an approachable personality are essential for this role. You must have the ability to work on your own and as part of a team. Specialist knowledge is not necessary, but an enthusiasm for wildlife and an interest in inspiring others is.

     

    Other key skills required:

    -          Some experience of  environmental education (working with young people from a variety  of backgrounds and abilities is preferable)

    -          An ability to work outside with groups of children and be on the go all day

    -          Confidence to work with groups of young people during activities that are part of a planned programme

    -          Some natural history knowledge

    -          A resourceful and flexible approach to be able to cope with a wide variety of ages and abilities of  young people

    -          A willingness to learn new skills

    -          Ability to use your initiative

    -          Computer literate

    -          A willingness to work as a member of a team and on your own

    -          Good communication skills

    -          Ability to travel independently between sites

    You will be required to have a CRB check and provide two references for this role as you will be working with children.

     

    This is a non residential placement and a voluntary internship.

     

    The RSPB speaks out for birds and wildlife, tackling the problems that threaten our environment. We rely upon membership and donations to fund our work. By volunteering your time and skills, you could make a real difference to the work of the RSPB.
