Do you remember how much you loved bedtime stories as a child? Or the feeling of losing yourself in a good book? Can you remember how much fun it was to pretend to be a character from your favourite story? Lots of children growing up in the UK today might not have those memories to look back on. 1 in 3 children in the UK does not own a book, and 25% of children don't think that reading is important. But not only is reading loads of fun, but developing skills in literacy can significantly impact a child's chances in life.
This is where we come in! We want a team of enthusiastic volunteers to help children in Torbay recognise how much fun reading and books can be! We're going to do this through running some workshops around Torbay to do with reading, storytelling and creative writing, but don't think this means sitting behind a desk! Think costumes, songs, running around, shouting, acting it out, and to top it all off a story competition for children from the area!
So if you're creative, like dressing up, stories, fancy dress, silly songs etc or all of the above we need YOU!
