Youth Speak is a media project for 11-16 year olds and aims to encourage them to get involved in debates, discussion and conversation. It started in Summer 2011 with the pilot programme. The format of the show is a Q and A much in the style of a magazine type show such as Sunday Morning Live, Newsnight, Questions Time. Youth Speak enables young people to form independent views, opinions and observations of the world around them. Last years pilot we discussed a variety of different topics from the reasons for the London riots of 2011 to should school children have to wear unifrom. This year we want to increase build on the pilot’s success, by increasing attendance, encouraging more lively debate and introducing a new Outreach element.
This volunteer role provides the opportunity for writing articles, interviewing people and contributing to a magazine. I believe that this is very useful experience for those who have an interest in journalism and who want to perhaps progress on to accredited journalism or media courses.
Some tasks that volunteer's could do are :
Conduct informal interviews with young people
· Assist in the recording of interviews and uploading onto computers
· Research topics of interest for Youth Speak (e.g. news articles, statistics….)
· Articles for the 1st Youth Speak magazine.
Oppurtunity just to apply for a writer.
