There are several things that you can be involved in that we hope you will be interested in;
First we are looking for writers of blogs on the European Union. We have eight topics we are asking people to write blog posts on asking for your opinions on European issues such as enlargement, democracy, and the impact of the EU on daily lives. The blog posts are between 300 and 700 words long so are nothing like as much effort as an essay. You can find out the exact topics and how to take part at http://ateurope.idebate.org/content/blogging-competition and you can register at http://ateurope.idebate.org/content/blogging-competition-entry-form
You may of course wish to attempt to win the competition and we encourage you to do so but to have a chance you will have to make multiple posts but we are equally interested in individual responses to these issues.
If you wish to take part in the competition aspect of the blogging the deadline is the 15th October
The next two things probably appeal most to anyone who is already involved in public speaking and debate
There is a short speech competition which is on the topic of ‘Intergenerational Justice in the European Union’. This will involve uploading a short speech between 3 and 5 minutes in length to youtube, vimeo or similar site. There is a statement to react to that can be found at http://ateurope.idebate.org/content/short-speech-competition where you can also find the rules and how it will work. Again we are as interested in people’s opinions as the competition. The entry form can be found at http://ateurope.idebate.org/content/short-speeches-competition-entry-form (only needs to be filled in after you have created your speech).
If you wish to take part in the competition aspect of the speeches the deadline is the 15th October
Finally there is a larger scale online debate competition which is done through vbates which is video debating software http://vbate.idebate.org/ however this involves teams so if you want to be involved you will need to find a couple of others who wish to take part alongside you. For more information on taking part in the competition please contact Manos Moschopoulos at mmoschopoulos@idebate.org.uk
We also encourage you to take part in discussions on our forum http://ateurope.idebate.org/discussion/debateeurope-discussion where you can also ask any questions you have about debate@europe.
