Most of the volunteering opportunities occur throughout the school summer holidays. There are some opportunities in term time too. Volunteers are required to attend a weeks residential training course from 10th-17th April. They then work on a weeks residential Superweek at some point in the summer. Holidays run throughout July and August. Once they have trained they can continue to volunteer for us throughout the years to come.

More info
Monitors are responsible for keeping their group happy, safe and reasonably well behaved. You get to know the children really well and are more of a big brother/sister figure than a supervisor. For many, their relationship with their monitor is the highlight of the holiday. You will be a member of your group so you get to eat at their table, sleep in their dorms and get involved in all the fun! Living in a country mansion or castle for a week, staff and children from all backgrounds and all over the country, have the time of their lives; make new friends, play games, explore, build dens in the woods, hear songs and stories round a campfire and have a chance to ‘get away from it all’ whilst experiencing lots of childhood memories. We particularly welcome applicants from male volunteers who can be positive role models for the the boys and girls. If you like acting like a big kid and think that a real childhood is invaluable then come share some of your magic with us. -

Hi Joanne, I'm afraid that you need to be 17 at easter when the training course takes place. But please keep us in mind because we run a course every year. Thanks for your interest. Josie

What are the age groups of the children that will attend the residential and also what would be the policy of a Transgendered volunteer be as I am in transition at the moment.
-
Hi Joshua,
The age range of the children are 8-16. They are split into age groups on different Superweeks.
With regards to any specific personal questions that you have these should be taken up with the director of training. He will be more than happy to talk it through with you. You can contact him by calling the office on 0845 456 1205.
Hope that helps.
Josie

Are there any positions like this in hampshire??
Our summer camps are very unique and you will certainly encounter hunders of activities that you have never even heard of before. Part of the joy of it is that we bring children from all over the UK who don’t know each other to discover new things together.
With regards to living in Hampshire. Yes you would need to get yourself to the training course at easter but if you dont feel comfortable driving long distances that’s fine. Most of our volunteers take the train and we pick them up from the station.
When it comes to summer, our camps are held all over the country. So we pay an buy your travel tickets from home to the centre and back again. You dont have to pay a penny! We want people from all over the UK to be able to come and volunteer because we know you all have something to offer.
If you have any more questions then please don’t hesitate to message me e-mail me at josie@ate.org.uk
Thanks
Josie
