After the London training, community leaders will be recruiting a team of volunteers to work with London communities and Trees for Cities to look into more sustainable ways of watering the young trees to ensure that Londoners feel all the benefits that street trees can bring. Street trees can provide shelter for wildlife, regulate weather extremes, help people connect with nature and improve air quality. We need volunteers to explore creative opportunities to get local people involved in watering local trees, for example, by creating a local tree watering team, or getting households to commit to watering a specific tree. This has the potential to, in the long run, reduce carbon from water haulage, and also support the practice of watering only when necessary. The Trees for Streets team will work on a project to encourage residents to take ownership of their trees and to help them to realize the fantastic impact that urban trees can contribute to climate change.
