As the winter nights draw in, shop lights will be turned on earlier and many businesses will be in the frame of mind of leaving lights on after closing, so that late night strollers can see products on display.
When in reality – it is too cold to do any strolling and everyone rushes home.Operation Blackout is an opportunity for us youth to create positive behaviour change and get a 2-for-1 offer on business and volunteer experience.
It will also boost your and your friends C.V. with aspects like – auditing, communication, engagement and networking.
All you need is a few shops with windows and left on lights (especially those main-street stores, so that we can name and shame them) and a spare hour or two after shop closing times to undertake the audit with friends or other volunteers.
We will then give every shop the chance to right there ways by meeting up with them and showing them the best ways to reduce light usage.
