Lead Volunteers! Work alongside Surfers Against Sewage and help to recruit other volunteers, promote our campaigns and events and take part in the Motivocean Beach Clean and Sports Tour in your local area! By becoming a Lead SAS Volunteer you will assist in promoting the Motivocean event in your area. This will include the initial distribution of advertising material, such as posters, postcards and leaflets to a range of youth organisations. You will receive an information pack of campaign & other information to familiarise yourself with our campaigns and work, which will support your role within the SAS beach clean team. Motivocean – On the day Working with SAS regional reps and/or staff members, lead volunteers will assist SAS in the setup of their local beach clean activity and then help lead groups of volunteers on the beach clean, providing information on the marine and coastal environment and the work SAS does to protect our beaches and oceans. After this, you can join in with the rest of the volunteering group and come surfing with SAS! You will also be asked to assist with various other important tasks including assisting sporting activities, packing up of the event, distributing materials and collecting monitoring & evaluation forms. Local travel and subsistence costs can be covered once discussed and agreed. With the experience gained from the build up and assisting on the activity the lead volunteer will be able to continue voluntary work for SAS by organising their own beach cleans. ‘Motivocean’ - Beach Clean & Surf Tour This summer, Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) is promoting the link between coastal environmental protection and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games through our event ‘Motivocean - Nationwide Beach Clean & Sports Tour’. SAS is developing our most ambitious beach-clean, sporting and educational tour to date – and we NEED YOU as a volunteer and then to come surfing with us! SAS is offering volunteers between 16-24 years old the opportunity to access and experience exciting sports, including surfing and some Olympic sports, by participating in the protection of the very environment that facilitates them – our beaches & oceans. The sea and coastal environment are a vital component of so many sporting activities from sailing to surfing, windsurfing to volley ball, and through this initiative SAS aims to reinforce and build awareness, linking sport and protection of the environment. These beach clean & educational events will take place across the UK, utilising the network of SAS regional ambassadors, our pro surf team, and new lead volunteers. SAS will hold events at 20 different beaches across the UK between 20th August and 31st August to initiate beach-cleaning activities and deliver sports opportunities with volunteers. Make sure you don’t miss out on this great opportunity to clean up your local beach, come surfing with us and meet like-minded youth volunteers in your area.
