Body & Soul

Established in 1996, Body & Soul is a unique charity providing support to children, young people and families living with or closely affected by HIV. We aim to counteract the devastation of an HIV positive diagnosis with strategies to reduce isolation and stress; improve health and well being; resume active lives and create a voice for human rights. In the summer of 2007, Body & Soul realised a major ambition and opened the UK’s only purpose designed HIV support centre for children, teenagers and families. Currently there are over 2700 registered members, and this forms an ever changing 220 attendees that access the centre for support every week across the four separate but interlinked programmes:

•    The Ofsted approved children’s centre for 0-9 year olds;
•    The ‘BaSe’ (Body & Soul Experience) for 10-12 year olds;
•    Teen Spirit for13-19 year olds
•    The Adult Programme for 20+, including a dedicated space for 20 – 25 year olds.

In addition, Body & Soul actively delivers outreach work and shares its expertise with organisations across the UK and beyond. The main aim of these activities is to increase awareness of HIV, breakdown the stigma that surrounds the issue; highlight the need to practice safer sex; and to improve the delivery of programmes for people living with or closely affected by HIV throughout the UK.
