Bristol Mates
Interested in mentoring?
Anyone can be a mentor and we welcome applications from all backgrounds and interests. We have recently had an increased demand for male mentors from ethnic minorities or those with sports backgrounds. If you have either of those we would be keen to hear from you. Don’t worry if you don’t, we would still love to have you involved!
We are looking for dedicated and mature individuals aged 19+ with a real motivation for making a difference in their local community. We expect that you will be able to contribute at least 2 hours a week and will be willing to undertake the training provided by us and the project within which you will work.
If selected, all mentors will go through a specially designed training programme which will provide you with all the skills necessary to undertake mentoring. You may also be given further training by the project that provides you with a mentor.
You will also be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure CRB Check. Different processes may apply for international students so please contact us to discuss this.
You will be provided with constant support by both us and your project throughout your time as a mentor. We will constantly review your progress with your mentee at regular meetings and you can raise any concerns or problems at any time.
We are currently recruiting for Mentors to begin in May/June 2010. We would need you to be able to commit to the role for at least one year, for at least 2 hours per week.
If you are a student – depending on your availability you may not start mentoring until the next academic year. You will need to be available and willing to take on cases for an entire academic year. This includes the exam period.
