Anthony Nicholls

The project Vibe Live organises free gigs in the Bournemouth area and provides a safe place for under 18 year olds to dance and listen to music. Anthony is the sound technician at the gigs. He also offers advice and guidance to the young people on PA equipment as well as technical support. He has volunteered over weekends, nights and early mornings and has created a website for Vibe Live to advertise their events. His commitment to the group has had a huge impact on the lives of the local young people.

 

 

Nora Living

Nora came to the UK as an asylum seeker from the Congo and has been actively involved in volunteering in Manchester since July 2010. She hopes that through her volunteering, she will improve her English and give something back to the community who granted her asylum. She has been involved in a range of projects, such as a community festival called ‘The Green Side of Moss Side’, the 'Youth Action Group', who work with young people to do talent shows and sport, 'The Limes Hoste'l for homeless men and 'Million Women Rise', who raise awareness of violence agaisnt women and children. Her commitment and enthusiam for so many projects in such a short space of time has amazed everyone.

 

Patrick Mahaffey

Patrick is part of a project called Volunteer Voices which empowers disabled young people to make positive life choices after leaving school. Patrick joined Skill in July 2010 having never volunteered before this time. He has now progressed to become a Skill Ambassador which is a role which sees him visit schools, colleges and youth groups to talk about his experiences of being a disabled young person. He actively encourages young people to think positively about their disability and what they want to do when they leave school.
