Shout Award Winner 2011

Sulaiman Khan

I am writing here what I would have liked to say when vinspired so kindly awarded me with a national Shout Award, because of my efforts campaigning for access for young disabled people. When my name was announced I was ironically enough stuck inside a wheelchair lift on my way to the stage to accept the award, which shows that the work of accessibility campaigners is far from over. Despite this, I was elated and humbled at the same time, and the v team were incredibly hospitable and accommodating.

Thank you to the lovely people at Trailblazers and Muscular Dystrophy Campaign for giving me the platform to campaign for an issue that is close to my heart (and my circumstances). Thank you to the vinspired team for the work you do and for a magical night. I have never seen so many genuinely inspirational people being celebrated in one night. Lastly, I would like to thank Bobby Ancil, not only for nominating me, but also for being an inspiration himself. Cheers Bobby, you’re the best. And thank you to everyone at the award ceremony who cheered me so enthusiastically (I could hear you from where I sat!). I am still grateful and ecstatic, weeks later for being honoured so wonderfully.
