The Campaigns 2011-2012

Over the course of the programme, Team v Leaders work collaboratively with their volunteers and communities to deliver three high impact campaigns. Our current Team v Leaders have tackled three key social issues:
1. Tackling food poverty across England
2. Reducing loneliness and isolation amongst older people
3. Improving literacy in children through the power of stories
Our leaders have tackled these themes in a variety of ways, raising awareness of the issues in their local communities and identifying creative solutions.
Check out the videos below!
Campaign 1: Tackling food poverty across England
Team v leaders, with the help of 615 volunteers, collected 20,300 items of non-perishable food worth over £13,000, donating food to local causes of their choice including food banks, homeless shelters and other local community groups. Together, Team v leaders managed to support 6,552 people affected by food poverty over the Christmas period.

Campaign 2: Reducing loneliness and isolation among older people
Team v leaders recruited 220 volunteers to help them plan and carry out a variety of intergenerational events which involved over 800 older people from their local communities. This was an emotional campaign, which helped our leaders to learn more about the impact of loneliness on older people, and different ideas to tackle the problem. Our leaders also inspired local organisations to continue developing activities to help older people.

Campaign 3: Improving literacy among children through the power of stories
This third and final campaign is already underway and will be running until 4th May. Our leaders are busy setting up pop-up story circles, creative writing workshops and story competitions across the country, using their creativity and imaginations to inspire children to read.
