08 Mar 2010 - 14 Mar 2011

  • Flexible

Tasks could include: • Surveys of fish and supporting others to participate in ‘spotting sessions’ • Helping the Volunteer Leader organise practical tasks related to the project • Instructing and enthusing other volunteers and members of the public, and helping them learn more about the fish within our waterways • Researching and creating a ‘Fish Key’ detailing the main species of fish in our local canals and rivers that members of the public and anglers can use to record what they see / catch • Inputting records onto the Cheshire Biodiversity database using RODIS • Promoting what you are doing through newspapers, radio, TV, the internet and at events • Writing up yours and others findings into reports for British Waterways, The Waterways Trust and rECOrd • Contributing your knowledge and experiences to a longer term volunteering strategy for BW and TWT

  • More info

You will help to research what species of fish are most common in our local waterways and create a guide to enable others to record this valuable information and feed it back in to the county database using RODIS. This information will benefit the organisations involved greatly; helping with planning and development, monitoring and conservation of our local fish species. It will also help to build up a true picture of the diverse life-forms that dwell beneath the water! This opportunity involves working with voluntary organisations, local angling societies and members of the public and would be ideal for anyone interested in conservation, ecology and the environment.
