    Waterways Action Squad is a youth volunteering project operating in the North west of England and our volunteer numbers are growing rapidly, especially in the area of practical conservation. As we cover such a large area, we need an enthusiastic volunteer aged 16-25 to join us on a part-full time basis to help us deliver existing commitments, identify and foster new projects, and ultimately help us to make a real difference to waterways wildlife – whilst getting as many other volunteers involved as possible and ensuring they have a rewarding experience.

    Key tasks will include:

    • Assisting the Volunteer Leader in planning and delivering practical conservation work parties along the regions canals and rivers
    • Looking into new activities and researching waterways conservation issues • Liaising with diverse partner organisations, especially British Waterways, Cheshire Ranger Service, The Wildlife Trusts and Cheshire record
    • Undertaking site visits and assessing the potential of new projects
    • Taking responsibility for your own and others Health and Safety, including the writing of risk assessments and checking equipment
    • Assisting with publicising the project and recruiting other volunteers
    • Assisting with record keeping and reporting on what we have done in accordance with our confidentiality policy
    • Building good relationships with organisations such as volunteer centres, youth groups, universities, schools and support services
    • Acting as an Ambassador for the project
    • Any other tasks related to the role including but not limited to: organising training, creating posters and flyers, contributing to blogs and newsletters, talking to members of the public and feeding back your ideas to policy makers.
