There are so many different views of the care system but less is known about what it feels like to grow up in care – what’s good and what needs to change.
This project aims to give the wider public more understanding of what the care system is like, and to challenge some of the stereotypes about young people with care experience. As a member of the project’s Steering Group and someone with experience of being in care, you will have the opportunity to make decisions about the campaign’s messages and to launch it using photographs which say something about your own experiences.
You will be helped by an experienced photographer and will be able to learn valuable skills which will look very good on your CV.
You’ll also be involved in recruiting other young people with experience of being in care to work on the other activities for this campaign. This will give you some real opportunities to develop your leadership qualities as well as giving you the chance to have your say – and encourage other young people like you to do the same. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. The below pictures are a part of the Don’t Write Us Off Photography Project. They tell the stories of young people who have experienced life in care. Each photo captures how young people represent their own experiences and lives in care. These are just a few of the pictures that young people have taken to express and depict what it means to them to be in care. It is the hope of The Who Cares? Trust, that through the eyes of the young people, awareness can be raised to better the lives of those in care.
