There are many views about the care system, but the public rarely hear about the experiences of young people who have grown up in care – what’s good and what needs to change. The Who Cares About Care? campaign will give volunteers with care experience an opportunity to tell their stories and challenge some of the stereotypes. Volunteering for this activity will give you the opportunity to influence the design, content and to edit a special edition of Who Cares? magazine which will focus on this campaign. You will helped by the Who Cares? editor and so you will have opportunities to develop a variety of skills including writing, editing and design which will all be very useful for your CV. In addition, as the magazine is widely distributed to young people in care, you will have a real opportunity to have your say. So far, the magazine project has been a success! The young people who have participated this far describe their experiences: Moussa, age 19 said that volunteering for The Who Cares? Trust “has given me ideas about how people make magazines. It’s also been really great meeting other people in care, people in different situations” When 19 year old Yasmin was asked why she keeps returning to volunteer with The Who Cares? Trust, even though she is not being paid responded, “Because it’s interesting. We’re all in care, so we know what where talking about. We know what we’re doing and what we’re saying in this magazine is right for children in care.” When 18 year old Ellia was asked why he got involved in Who Cares? he said, "Many reasons! As a young person who is living in care, I feel I should do something for other people in care. Also, when I see there are people- like those who make Who Cares?- who care about children in care, I want to get involved. This is a great opportunity to help others and raise up the voice of teenagers in care"
