Grain of Sand

Imagine lying on the world’s finest beach with a cold drink and a book. Beneath you, four million grains of sand support your relaxation. You might not notice a single missing grain, yet together, they create your paradise.

Volunteering at the Olympics is similar. While international sports capture global attention, it’s the collective effort of up to 70,000 volunteers that makes these events truly special, starting with the Opening Ceremony on July 27 and culminating with the Paralympics closing ceremony on September 9.

A Journey of Resilience and Goal Setting

In November, I joined 14,000 hopefuls auditioning to perform at the ceremonies. Despite being a middle-aged accountant, with skills in Rock Choir and improv, dancing was uncharted territory for me. Yet, I pressed on, embodying resilience and aiming high.

Amazingly, after a four-hour audition, I was called back. The second audition tested a new skill, and on January 16, I received the incredible news: I would perform at the 2012 Opening Ceremony. If you watch that night, I will be one of the many pixels on your screen.
