NCS Summer of a Lifetime Youth Advisory Group Meetup
Get Ready for an Unforgettable Summer Experience
Our first NCS Summer of a Lifetime Youth Advisory Group meeting was an exciting start to an incredible journey. The day began with the ‘Balloon Game’, a fun way to break the ice and foster teamwork. Although I struggled to blow up the balloons, the game was an effective way to get acquainted with fellow young volunteers by writing our names on balloons. Whoever picked up your balloon spent time getting to know you, facilitating relationship building within the group.
Following this, we played a youth-friendly version of ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ to introduce us to the project’s goals and phases. Each correct answer earned us some sweets, adding a sweet incentive to our learning process. It was enlightening to discover new aspects of the project that I hadn’t known before.
Emma, one of our mentors, elaborated on the program’s structure and expectations. We then divided into groups to create collages representing our hopes and fears about the project. This activity was not only insightful but also added a humorous touch to the day.
At the end of the session, roles were assigned. I’m thrilled to be one of the bloggers for the project, complementing my photoblog efforts on social media. Luke, another member, captured photos of the group, which added a bit of embarrassment but also a lot of fun.
The first session was a great success—relaxed yet productive. I’m eagerly anticipating the upcoming phases of the program, where we’ll continue to build on skills like teamwork, goal setting, and networking.
