PM Launches Tech Skills Drive For Young People

The UK government has launched a bold new initiative to prepare young people for a rapidly changing digital economy.
The TechFirst programme, announced by the Prime Minister, will invest £187 million to equip 1 million secondary school pupils and 7.5 million adult learners with essential digital and AI skills by 2030. The programme marks a significant national effort to prepare the UK for a digital future.
Key highlights:
- TechYouth strand: £24 million will go towards teaching digital and computing skills to 1 million secondary pupils across every region in the UK.
-
Industry partnerships: Renowned tech firms, including Google, NVIDIA and Microsoft, will collaborate with the government to deliver high-quality, industry-led training and close the digital skills gap.
- A future-focused mission: Preparing the UK workforce for an AI-centric economy, with up to 10 million jobs requiring AI competence by 2035.
How The New National Skills Align With Vinspired Core Skills Framework
The PM’s skills programme and Vinspired’s Core Skills Framework share a common goal: Empowering young people to succeed in an uncertain future.
Young people need multiple pathways to develop their skills. Volunteering offers a low-barrier, high-impact way to build confidence, gain experience, and stand out in competitive job markets. At Vinspired, we champion a Core Skills framework that helps young people identify and articulate the competencies they gain through volunteering. By combining formal education with hands-on volunteering and community action, we can build a more skilled, adaptable and connected generation.
