Befriending Volunteer

Caring Friends is a partnership project between the Community Volunteering Team and The Unpaid Carers Team at Cardiff Council. This project is looking to recruit a team of volunteers who are passionate about providing friendship and low-level support to Unpaid Carers across Cardiff.


Age: 18 - 100
When: Weekdays And Flexible
Where: Hybrid

Tasks our Befriending Volunteers undertake include:
- Making weekly phone calls / video calls / home visits to carers to provide friendship; 
- Signposting carers to services who can support them where relevant; 
- Going shopping on behalf of the carer; 
- Cleaning tasks including dish washing, vacuuming and dusting;
- Gardening tasks including lawn mowing and watering plants. 

What we’re looking for: 
- Empathetic people who are passionate about providing support to Unpaid Carers; 
- An understanding about who an unpaid carer might be, or a willingness to learn; 
- People who are warm and friendly, and love building relationships with people; 
- People who love learning new things and are committed to finding out more about services that can help people who are unpaid carers; 
- Access to a phone or computer in order to undertake befriending activities; 
- Someone who is able to commit to a regular volunteering day (at least once a week); 
- An ambassador for Cardiff Council, through following relevant policies and procedures.
