Skills:
Age: 18 - 30
When: Weekdays And Evenings
Where: Remote
Commitment:

Doorstep Library is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and all those it comes into contact with. All volunteers undergo rigorous safer recruitment processes including specified interview questions, a DBS check, and the collection of written and/or verbal references. Safeguarding training is a mandatory part of the induction process for all volunteers, and they are expected to always adhere to our safeguarding policies and procedures.

Doorstep Library volunteers read in person or online with families to bring the magic of books and the joy of reading directly into the homes of children who need our support.

We use books to fuel children’s natural love of stories, fire their imaginations, and encourage their appreciation of reading. Our projects not only improve literacy and confidence in children, but also increase family wellbeing and bonding through the joy of sharing stories.

Our online reading service means you can join remotely from anywhere in the UK!
You can volunteer on either a Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday during school term time starting at 4.30pm and finishing at 6:30pm.

Volunteers only do sessions during school term times so there are plenty of breaks throughout the year. Volunteers are also entitled to 2 absences per term. Overall volunteers just volunteer for approximately 31 weeks of the year! We have regular, semi-regular and stand-in opportunities to suit your availability.

You will be fully trained in all aspects of becoming a Reading Volunteer so that you feel confident before starting sessions with families. You will receive regular contact with Doorstep Library staff members so that you are fully supported throughout your volunteer journey, especially during your trial period. You can receive additional training opportunities to develop your skills. We celebrate and recognise your time volunteering with us.
