How You Can Use Puppy Power to Help 2 Million People
Puppies! Now, do I have your attention? Good. Because I’m sure we can both agree, puppies are awesome. But you know what’s even better? Puppies that grow up to be guide dogs. They’re basically dog superheroes. If a blind person is the navigator, their dog is the pilot. For someone like Claire, her dog Minnie isn’t just an essential way to get around—she’s her best friend.
“My world came crashing down when I was diagnosed with Usher Syndrome. With hearing loss since birth and progressive sight loss, I couldn’t see much of a future. My world was dark and empty. When my little girl arrived, I became a hermit—a young Mum too scared to go out. But my daughter was getting bigger and I realized that I needed to go out for her sake. So I made a call to Guide Dogs.”
“Now I have Minnie, I can say yes to taking my daughter to the park, I can be a typical mum. Minnie is more than just my guide dog. She’s my best friend, my rock, and I don’t know how I would cope without her. I thank Minnie every day just for being her.”
Amazing, right? There are almost 2 million people like Claire in the UK who need a best friend like Minnie so they can have the freedom to explore the world. This is why Guide Dogs are essential. They don’t receive any government funding, so without support from me and you, they wouldn’t exist.
I’m delighted that it’s Guide Dogs Week from October 1–9. It’s a chance to Move it for Money so that more people with sight loss can get moving with the help of superhero pilot puppies like Minnie. We know life is hectic, so here are 10 fundraising ideas you can do with a friend.
