Keep Vinspired independent

We closed once, because we depended on a single funder. Supporters are how we make sure that cannot happen again. It buys you nothing, and that is the point.

The first Vinspired closed in 2018 when its funding ran out. This one is a company that pays for itself, so the free level does not depend on a grant being renewed. Why there is a price at all

The reason this page exists

  1. 2006 to 2018

    What happened

vInspired was a national charity that helped 1.4 million young people volunteer. In November 2018 its funding ran out and it closed. One funder had been holding the whole thing up.

  2. November 2018

    What it cost

For a while it looked as if the record of what 1.4 million young people had done would disappear. Nothing was wrong with the idea. It went anyway, because the money behind it was somebody else's decision.

  3. 2023

    What we rebuilt

We took it on in 2023 as a small company and built it again from scratch. A company can earn its own keep, so the free level does not wait each year to hear whether a grant was renewed.

  4. Now

    What we will not repeat

Depending on one source of money. Paid partnerships will carry most of the weight. Supporters spread the rest across people who simply want Vinspired to exist.

What supporting pays for

Verification
The register checks behind verification, so an organisation is a real one before it can contact anyone.
Servers and security
Servers, backups and the security work that keeps a record safe for ten years.
Safeguarding
Safeguarding and data protection, which on a platform used by schools is never finished.
Support
A person who answers support, knows the product, and writes back the same week.

This is the level the platform was rebuilt for. Everything else exists so that this one can stay free.

The letter each term

Each term we write to supporters and say what the money paid for, in numbers. Then we publish the letter here, for everyone to read. The first one comes at the end of the first term of supporting.

Until the first letter, this is the list. The numbers arrive with the letter.

One of these is you

A Friend likes that Vinspired exists. A Believer wants it to grow. A Champion keeps the free level free.

  1. Friend

    You like that Vinspired exists.

    £5 a month, or £50 a year.

  2. Believer

    You want it to grow.

    £10 a month, or £100 a year.

  3. Champion

You keep the free level free.

    £20 a month, or £200 a year.

A circle for a person, a rounded square for an organisation, the same shapes everything else on Vinspired uses. Your supporter badge carries the year you started, and keeps it.

What you get, and what it is not

A certificate is the highest thing anyone earns here, and it cannot be bought.

What you get

  • Your supporter badge beside your name, if you want it shown.
  • Your name on the supporters page, if you want it there.
  • A letter each term saying what the money paid for, in numbers.

What it is not

  • It is not a feature. Nothing on Vinspired unlocks because you support it.
  • It is not verification. Verification is free on every level and cannot be bought.
  • It is not earned. Your supporter badge says you chose to give, and it never sits in the awards area beside the badges people earn.
  • Supporting is for organisations and for people 18 and over.
  • A supporter badge is given, never earned, and it never sits beside the badges and certificates that are.

Questions

Questions people ask us

Is this a donation?

No. Vinspired is a company, not a charity, so this is not a donation and Gift Aid does not apply. It is a small voluntary subscription that you can stop whenever you like.

Does supporting unlock anything?

No, and that is the point. No feature, no priority, no queue jump. Verification cannot be bought and certificates cannot be bought.

Who can support?

Organisations, and people aged 18 and over. If you are younger, the best support is the thing you already do: volunteer, log it, and show someone your record.

How do I stop?

Whenever you like, in two clicks from your billing page. There are fourteen days to change your mind and get the payment back in full. If you stop, your supporter badge keeps its dates.

Why not just raise the paid prices?

Because the free level should not depend on how many organisations buy the paid ones. Supporters spread that weight across people who simply want Vinspired to exist.
