Vinspired and Bigga Fish Block Party
Over the August bank holiday weekend, Vinspired teamed up with Bigga Fish to host an unforgettable Block Party at the Notting Hill Carnival. This event, aimed at celebrating youth culture, was a testament to the positive impact young people can have in their communities.
Embracing Event Volunteering
When I first saw the opportunity to volunteer at the Block Party on the Vinspired website, I didn’t hesitate. Volunteering at events like these not only boosts my CV but also allows me to connect with other volunteers on Vinspired, making it a rewarding experience. Two of my friends signed up as well, and together, we embarked on this adventure.
Our day began at Hazelwood Crescent on Sunday morning, where we were warmly welcomed by the staff. Lorna from Vinspired and Natalie from Bigga Fish briefed us on our tasks, emphasizing the importance of celebrating youth positivity, especially in light of recent events.
Preparing for the Festivities
Our first task was to transform the block into a party-ready venue. With posters, beanbags, and deck chairs, we set up a chill-out zone. Donning our Vinspired t-shirts and armed with Block Party passes and invites, we set out to perform random acts of kindness.
The bustling streets of Notting Hill were alive with carnival spirit, and people were receptive to our gestures. The younger crowd, in particular, was intrigued by the event and happily accepted our giveaways like whistles, glow sticks, and badges.
Creating a Wall of Positivity
Back at the block, the atmosphere was electric with the DJs playing tunes that energized the crowd. Our next mission was the ‘Wall of Positivity,’ where we encouraged attendees to write positive messages on post-it notes. The responses were inspiring, showcasing the optimism of youth.
An Unforgettable Experience
Monday was a day to enjoy the Block Party as attendees. Hazelwood Grove was packed, and the energy was palpable. The highlight was when Ms Dynamite took the stage, followed by performances from Talay Riley, Cleo Sol, and Kele le Roc, making the event truly memorable.
This weekend of volunteering was not just about contributing to the community but also about resilience and staying positive. It was a reminder that volunteering can be fun and impactful.
