4 Ways We Made Volunteers Into Retail Superstars

Our Leeds and Rochdale Pop-Up Shops Are Opening Soon!

The Retail Ready People (RRP) shops in Leeds and Rochdale are about to launch, offering young volunteers aged 16-25 an invaluable experience in retail. Supported by Vinspired in collaboration with Retail Trust, these pop-up shops are set to become dynamic community spaces. Get into retail… together with us!

Tricks of the Trade

Building and running a shop from scratch is an art. Our volunteers have received extensive training from top high street retailers such as JD Sports, Hotel Chocolat, Disney, and Dixons. They even had the chance to visit Swarovski’s flagship store on London’s Oxford Street.

At Swarovski, our volunteers were inspired by a store manager who shared his journey from a pot washer at 16 to a managerial role, illustrating the opportunities available for young people in retail.

1. Every Detail Counts

To stand out in the competitive retail market, attention to detail is crucial. Here are some tips:

  • Schedule regular tidy-ups to maintain the shop’s appearance.
  • Always greet customers with a smile.
  • Identify and improve inefficient processes to boost staff and customer satisfaction.

2. Patience is Key

Retail can be challenging, but maintaining a positive attitude is essential. When handling customer complaints, remain calm and empathetic. Always work towards a solution with your manager’s help.

3. Go Above and Beyond

Outstanding customer service creates happy customers. Consider how you can make each visit exceptional:

  • If an item isn’t in stock, help customers find it elsewhere.
  • Suggest complementary products without being pushy.
  • Accompany customers to the items they need and offer assistance.

4. Aim High

Demonstrating a willingness to learn beyond your current role shows your dedication to success in retail.

Our RRP Stores

The first Retail Ready People store opens in Rochdale on Saturday, May 11.

The Rochdale shop will feature local crafts and designs, offering a hands-on experience for visitors. In Leeds, volunteers have created a social space, showcasing local artists and hosting events. Support the next generation of Retail Ready People!

Plan a visit to Unit 1 of Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre, Rochdale on May 11 or Leeds City Centre on May 18 for launch day events and giveaways.
