5 Results Day Myths That Will Make You Feel Better About Your Exam Results

This is it. After months of revision cramming, extra lessons, and endless exam timetables, results day is here. Whether you were thrilled or disappointed this morning, don’t worry. Whatever happens next, there’s an awesome pathway ahead—it’s all about getting positive about the next steps.

1. Massive Pay Cheques Only Come with Higher Education

Many believe success is measured by the number of zeros on your pay cheque, often associated with graduating from university. However, some of the richest self-made billionaires, like Amancio Ortega (Zara), Karl Albrecht (Aldi), and Ingvar Kamprad (IKEA), have no higher education qualifications.

2. Results Are More Important Than Attitude

A common trait among successful individuals is perseverance, not a degree. Success isn’t determined by a 2:1 or First Class Honours. Academics isn’t for everyone; we all have unique talents and abilities. It’s about picking ourselves up after every stumble. As Bill Gates, a Harvard dropout, said, “It’s fine to celebrate success, but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.”

3. Going Through Clearing is a Sign of Failure

If you didn’t get into your choice of university, don’t give up. There are other options. I personally went through clearing and was accepted into the University of Westminster to pursue my degree in BA Politics. It’s crucial to stay positive and resilient, focusing on your passions.

4. Your First Choice University Will Never Look at Your Application Again

If you’re not at your choice university, work hard and apply through UCAS to transfer elsewhere. Transfer isn’t guaranteed, so enjoy your first year and take pride in your work. I did this and got an offer from my original choice, SOAS, after proving my academic capabilities.

Stay hopeful, don’t give up, and strive to be the best version of yourself. Life’s setbacks are opportunities to learn and grow.
