A Big Week for Youth Policy
As we reach the end of the year, the Government is attempting to bring some festive cheer to young people, and let’s face it, they need it. It’s been a tough year, and the future doesn’t seem much brighter.
In recent weeks, the Government has rolled out the Youth Contract, alongside a new participation strategy, and now its Positive for Youth statement. These initiatives aim to foster a society that is optimistic about young people’s futures.
However, implementing these visions comes with challenges. Ministers have emphasized the need for these changes with minimal investment from the public purse. Aside from the National Citizen Service, central government investment in youth out-of-school services remains limited.
Youth Volunteering Programs and Initiatives
The integration of policies from multiple government departments into the Positive for Youth statement is commendable. However, there is still a lack of clear, decisive action to improve young people’s circumstances.
This is why Vinspired has partnered with NCVYS and other members to urge the Government to ensure every department and local authority under the Positive for Youth initiative publishes their own ‘youth action plan’. We advocate for actions that genuinely support young people to reach their potential, and we call on decision-makers to be bold in delivering their visions.
Like many youth-oriented organizations, Vinspired is committed to maximizing resources to support young people’s development. We urge Government departments and local authorities to pledge similar commitments.
