An Olympic Legacy
Participating in Vinspired has opened up incredible opportunities for me, from engaging with ministers at the NCVYS conference to interviewing candidates for roles like the commercial development manager. The platform even provides unexpected opportunities beyond the Youth Advisory Board (YAB), such as involvement with the Young Games Makers Selection Events developed through LOCOG.
These selection events are a remarkable chance for volunteers to interview and assess teams of potential Young Games Makers for the Olympic Games. We also evaluate their team leaders to ensure they can motivate young people before, during, and after the Olympics, fostering a lasting legacy.
LOCOG has played a significant role in shaping the experiences of Young Games Makers by promoting core values like openness, distinctiveness, delivery, teamwork, respectfulness, and inspiration. Witnessing these values in action reinforces the significance of the Olympic Games and the positive impact it has on volunteers.
The Olympic Games are pivotal in making sports accessible and may help address challenges like obesity. They also offer young people the chance to volunteer, emphasizing the importance of community involvement and inspiring the next generation of volunteers. This aligns perfectly with Vinspired’s mission.
I’m grateful to YAB for introducing me to Vinspired and its myriad opportunities. I hope these experiences will continue to shape my life and become a legacy, much like the Olympic Games.
