Be Part of the Olympic Legacy with the 2012 Community Games

Are you ready to be part of the Olympic legacy? The 2012 Community Games is an exciting initiative bringing communities across England together to create their very own Olympic and Paralympic-inspired events. This is a golden opportunity to engage in community voluntary service and foster civic engagement, community support, and sports & recreation.

This week, the Office for Civil Society announced £2 million in funding to expand Community Games across the UK. Originally initiated in 2010 with funding from Legacy Trust UK in the West Midlands, this project has already seen more than 200 games successfully organized. With new partners such as the YMCA and the County Sports Partnership Network, the initiative is set to reach communities throughout England.

What Are Community Games?

Community Games is a simple yet powerful concept that encourages communities to come together and create their own Olympic and Paralympic-inspired events. These events can feature sports and arts activities, fostering teamwork & collaboration and creativity & innovation. Whether you’re interested in competitive sports like archery and climbing or prefer creative activities like face painting, Community Games offers something for everyone.

Get Involved

There are three main avenues for young people to engage with Community Games:

  1. As a Participant: Visit the Community Games website for details on events planned across England this summer.
  2. As a Volunteer: Discover events near you, and reach out to organizers to see how you can assist on the day.
  3. As an Organizer: If you’re interested in honing your project management & organization skills, consider organizing your own Community Games. The website provides a comprehensive toolkit to guide you through the process.

Celebrate the Olympic Spirit

Participating in Community Games is an excellent way to celebrate the Olympic torch’s journey across the UK. Whether you join as a participant, volunteer, or organizer, you’ll gain invaluable experience, develop new skills, and form lasting friendships right in your local area.
