How Teenagers Raised £3,000 for Schools in India
By working together as a team, we raised a life-changing £3,000 for two schools in Vellore, India. With just a little effort and time, we transformed the lives of young people on the other side of the planet.
The funds will enhance their learning facilities and living conditions, and I couldn’t be more proud.
India Week: A Cultural Exchange
We organized the event as part of India Week at Stamford Endowed Schools. It was hosted by the Lincs to India Committee, a project aimed at connecting schools from Lincolnshire with those in India. The project was such a success that it attracted interest from every year group. We held regular meetings, which were crucial for organizing an impactful event like India Week.
Innovative Fundraising Ideas
As Chair of the Lincs to India Committee, I collaborated with our staff facilitator to ensure everything went smoothly. To manage all the incredible ideas, I assigned team members to lead their own projects. Their enthusiasm was inspiring! One team member suggested painting henna patterns on pupils’ hands for a small fee. This activity not only promoted Indian culture but also raised hundreds of pounds.
Our school values creativity and independence, which we leveraged fully. Imagine your school hall showing Bollywood films, serving Indian food, and featuring live music. The highlight was the Holi Festival of Colours, where we celebrated with colored powder, mirroring celebrations in India.
Overcoming Challenges and Building Skills
Though challenging, we overcame obstacles with positivity and resilience. The experience enriched my personal skills and taught us teamwork. I am deeply grateful to my friends, teachers, and school for their support.
Projects like this raise awareness about international development. We plan to run a marathon to promote our project further and strengthen ties with our partner schools in Vellore, India through exchange trips.
