Creating a Volunteering Habit that Sticks

· 2 min read

Vinspired aims to get young people excited about volunteering as early as possible. Our lifelong habits are developed in our formative years, and volunteering should be one of them. This article explores how early engagement with volunteering can lead to lasting benefits.

Growing up, my family didn’t have much spare cash. My parents did their best to make Christmas and birthdays special, with gifts from family members. Money was rare and exciting, a gateway to the toys I desired. Even now, I check every card for money, a habit formed in my youth.

Habits learned at an early age tend to stick with us.

This is why Vinspired is keen to inspire volunteers as young as 11. By integrating volunteering into young people’s lives during adolescence, we make it easier for them to transition into regular volunteering as adults. Discovering self-confidence through volunteering can significantly ease their journey into adulthood.

We have a strategic partnership with The Schools Network, allowing us to collaborate with teaching staff across England. We’re promoting school-based volunteering initiatives and recognizing young volunteers through the Vinspired Awards.

Teachers, much like parents, are crucial in inspiring students to embrace a culture of giving. Evidence shows that positive early experiences in volunteering lead to lifelong community participation.
