Good For Nothing: Seja Majeed’s Inspiring Volunteer Journey

Seja Majeed, a dynamic figure in the world of fun volunteering, has leveraged a vcashpoint grant to launch her innovative Cosmetic Hives project. This initiative offers make-up application workshops to young individuals eager to break into the fashion and media industries. Seja’s journey into volunteering began at the age of sixteen when she was elected as student governor of the City of Westminster College. Her commitment only grew as she moved on to join the law society at Brunel University.

“Volunteering is character-building, and you learn how determined you are as a person. People respect you. It’s a great way to learn who you are. Ultimately it’s about getting to know yourself and other people. I’m proud to be part of v’s Good For Nothing campaign and hope to show that there’s more to young people than meets the eye.”

Seja’s story is one of empowerment and community impact. Her Cosmetic Hives project not only equips young people with practical skills but also provides them with a professional portfolio to showcase to potential employers. Each participant attends three workshops in a fully-equipped studio in Fulham, offering an authentic industry experience.

“There are a lot of young people who want to get into fashion and media—it can be a lucrative business—but they may not have the skills to do so. In our sessions, we teach them how to apply make-up on professional models, with a photographer and production company recording the workshops.”

Seja emphasizes the importance of creating a professional environment for her workshops, enhancing the participants’ learning experience.

“I wanted to give them an idea of a proper working environment for this type of work, rather than holding sessions in a community centre without any atmosphere,” Seja explains. “This way, they could get an authentic feeling, a proper vibe of what it’s like, with lights, mirrors, cameras, and more, which will help them when they go to interviews.”

Making a Difference in the Community

Seja believes in the transformative power of youth creativity and energy. She notes the significant positive impact young people have on their communities through volunteering.

“Young people have a lot of imagination, creativity, and energy—qualities that communities greatly benefit from. It really gives you a sense of pride to know that your fellow peers are making a difference in their community and empowering themselves.”

Seja Majeed’s work with Cosmetic Hives is a testament to the power of volunteering in building skills, empathy, and a sense of community. Her efforts reflect the core values of Vinspired, inspiring others to contribute meaningfully.
