Student Volunteering Week 2012: Back to Community Roots

Student Volunteering Week 2012

Today marks the beginning of Student Volunteering Week 2012, a significant event organized by Volunteering England. Now in its 11th year, the theme “Back to Basics: Community Roots” focuses on informal volunteering and community action, encouraging students to engage with their communities profoundly.

According to Volunteering England, 63% of students participate in formal voluntary activities while at university, and 95% volunteer out of a desire to improve things or help people, creating strong community links. Volunteering is an excellent way to enhance employability, with 51% of recent graduates under 30 years old in paid work acknowledging that volunteering helped them secure a job.

Nick Hurd, Minister for Civil Society, stated, “Young people should think seriously about volunteering. It’s a great opportunity to develop new skills, give back to the community, and gain fantastic work experience for their CV. Student Volunteering Week 2012 offers young people the chance to explore how they can get involved.”

At Vinspired, we believe the time between studies is perfect for connecting with the community and gaining valuable experience to support future employability and career aspirations. Explore our student or careers-related opportunities that offer meaningful ways to make a difference while acquiring professional skills.

The 2012 campaign aims to engage volunteers through social media, inspiring more individuals and organizations to consider volunteering. Stay updated on Student Volunteering Week and student volunteers’ insights via the #svw2012 hashtag on Twitter and Facebook.
