Swing the Vote: Young People Care About Being Heard at Electionsswingthevote
At Vinspired, we believe that young people are far from apathetic. Every day, we engage with thousands of motivated and passionate young individuals who are tackling crucial issues in communities across the nation. Despite this dedication, we recognize that many young people might not exercise their right to vote in the upcoming general election.
Empowering Young Voices Through ‘Swing the Vote’
Our new initiative, the ‘Swing the Vote’ campaign, aims to empower young voices by highlighting their importance in the political landscape. This campaign endeavors to demonstrate to policymakers that the younger generation desires a significant say in how the country is governed.
Engaging Young Voters
Over the coming months, we invite young people to visit our campaign website to vote on key issues that will motivate them to head to the polling stations. Our goal is to elevate these issues to the attention of politicians, challenging them to win the youth vote. This effort is part of our ongoing commitment to promoting civic engagement among young volunteers.
Key Findings from Our Research
To kickstart the campaign, we commissioned research that confirmed many of our observations:
- 80% of young people care about key issues but feel underrepresented in politics.
- 57% have actively campaigned on at least two issues since the last election.
- 69% disagree with the notion that abstaining from voting will capture politicians’ attention.
- 78% agree that the current political system fails to represent the needs of their generation.
- 71% advocate for basic political education in schools to make informed voting decisions.
Key Concerns for Young People
The research highlighted critical areas of interest for young people, including youth unemployment, immigration (40%), cost of living (29%), and student fees (18%). Additionally, 73% of young people desire reforms in the electoral process, such as text and online voting.
Join the Movement
This campaign, coinciding with National Voter Registration Day, is a call to action for young people to participate in ongoing polls on these vital issues. Results will be unveiled a year before the next election, providing a platform for young voices to be heard.
