Volunteer of the Month

Volunteering in Dance

What sort of volunteering have you been doing?

“I have three main volunteer roles and assist other organizations when I can. Over the last year, I’ve been teaching street dance at my school. When our teacher stepped down, I took on the role. I love to dance, and now I run my own class every Monday, which is a big success!”

Finding Purpose in Dance

Why did you want to start volunteering in dance?

“I’ve always loved dancing. It pulled me through tough times, especially after my dad passed away. Dancing helped me regain confidence, and now I’m helping our dance department progress.”

Boys Brigade Involvement

You’ve also volunteered for your local Boys Brigade?

“Yes, it was my first volunteering experience, as part of my Duke of Edinburgh award. I teach Bible studies, arts and crafts, and coordinate shows like Easter and Christmas. I love bringing performances together.”

Skills Gained Through Volunteering

What skills have you gained through volunteering?

“Leadership, communication, and teamwork. Although I run the dance group, teamwork is essential.”

Pursuing a Cashpoint Project

And you’re now using those skills to apply for a Cashpoint project?

“Yes, I discovered Cashpoint last year. It sparked an idea for a workshop on self-worth, with an inspirational speaker, aimed at addressing community issues.”

Balancing Volunteering and Dancing

What do you think you would be doing if you weren’t volunteering?

“I’d probably focus entirely on dancing, performing at venues like Sadler’s Wells and the London Palladium. But volunteering gives me purpose.”

Winning Volunteer of the Month

How does it feel to win Volunteer of the Month?

“It’s motivating and encourages others. Even if you don’t win, hard work can be recognized.”

“The impact she has made at her school and community is incredible. She truly embodies the spirit of volunteering.” — Carol Duffy, St Paul’s Academy
