Volunteer of the Month: Robert Bellis

March’s Volunteer of the Month has been awarded to Robert Bellis for his outstanding contributions as a Sea Cadet Instructor with the Ellesmere Port Sea Cadets. Robert has excelled in training cadets aged 12 to 18 years in maritime subjects, dedicating over eight years to volunteering. His commitment has earned him the prestigious v100 Award.

Robert’s nominator, Arron Ainslie, Officer in Charge, shared that Robert has been pivotal in providing opportunities for young cadets, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds. His training sessions emphasize teamwork and leadership, equipping cadets with skills vital for future employment.

Robert’s enthusiasm is infectious, inspiring young people within the organization to progress and succeed. He serves as an exemplary role model, both in appearance and conduct.

Meet the Winner!

When did you start volunteering and why?
Robert began his journey over eight and a half years ago as a junior cadet, aiming for personal development.

What kind of volunteering have you done in the last year?
As the Training Officer at Ellesmere Port Sea Cadets, Robert dedicates two nights a week to training, guiding cadets through sea-faring knowledge, leadership, teamwork, and community work.

How does it feel to win Volunteer of the Month?
Robert feels honored and surprised by the recognition.

In what ways do you feel you’ve made a difference to others?
He takes pride in witnessing the growth and increased self-confidence of the cadets he trains.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering? And how has it changed you?
Volunteering has significantly boosted Robert’s self-confidence.

What do you do outside of volunteering?
Robert is pursuing a degree in Nautical Science and is set to join the Merchant Navy as an officer.

If you were Prime Minister for a day, what would be the one thing you would change?
Robert would strive for equality among all individuals, believing it to be a transformative change.
