About Us
Wild Futures is a UK registered charity dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of primates who have fallen victim to the pet trade, offering education on conservation and recycling, campaigning to end the UK primate pet trade and supporting native wildlife conservation. The Monkey Sanctuary is the flagship project of the charity Wild Futures, and is home to woolly monkeys, Barbary macaques and a growing number of capuchins, most rescued from the UK pet trade. As a small charity we could not function without the help of our volunteers, who stay with us in shared accommodation on site, for periods of 2-12 weeks (sometimes longer). All year round, volunteers help us to clean out the monkey enclosures, learn how to prepare food and enrichment items for the different species of monkey, and in the summer help out in our vegetarian cafe and kid's education workshops. During winter the afternoons are spent making enrichment, carrying out maintenance tasks like sawing wood, sweeping leaves and general housekeeping, or helping with displays, education resources or admin work. We do our best to take volunteers’ personal preferences into account where possible.
