About Slough Youth Voice
The Youth Voice project involves young people who participate in either the Young Inspectors and Young Commissioners or the Youth Parliament. They donate their time for free.
Sloughs Young Inspectors are a team of volunteers aged 11-19, or up to 25 with additional needs. They visit a range of services for young people including job clubs, advice sessions, schools, libraries, young peoples accommodation, health services and youth activities. As part of a team, they carry out an inspection by looking at the building and equipment, talking to staff and most importantly young people. They then report back on how effective the provision is in delivering a quality service and making a difference to young people.
Objectives for Young Inspectors:
Ensure that children and young people participate and have an impact in the decision making of the organisations that work with them.
Evaluate services that work with children and young people to assess and evaluate how well they are doing.
Advise on improvements and report on their findings.
Encourage existing services to reflect on their practice and implement change.
Sloughs Youth Parliament is a mechanism for young people to get their voices heard, represent the views of their peers and influence what happens in their local area. The Parliament is made up of young people from Slough aged 11-18. Candidates are elected by young people at their school/college/youth organisation. Elections then take place. Successful candidates become Members of the Youth Parliament for a 2 year term of office.
All young people attending Slough secondary schools had an opportunity to vote for a candidate.
What Youth Parliament does
Sloughs Youth Parliament sits on local strategic groups and boards and represents young peoples views and influence these decision makers.
